Sizing your system

Today, net metering credits your exports at the full 15.84¢. NB Power has proposed a lower export credit and a demand charge for net-metered homes. Until the Energy and Utilities Board decides, sizing to your own use is the safe choice.

Batteries

Under 1:1 net metering, a battery doesn't add savings. If the proposed changes pass, that could change, and batteries can be added later.

Questions to ask any installer

  • Is the system sized to my last 12 months of usage, or to the roof?
  • Which incentive are you counting in the price, and is it open today?
  • Who files the utility application and the rebate paperwork?
  • What are the panel, inverter and workmanship warranties, in years?
  • What does the payback look like if export credits or rates change?

Our take

If you registered for the old rebate, your project must be finished by January 31, 2027. Don't leave it to the winter.
