NS Power's Commercial Net Metering Program covers systems above the 27 kW Self-Generating Option, up to 200 kW for general commercial and up to 1 MW for farms, fisheries, aquaculture and demand-charge customers. Systems must be sized to your annual consumption, and a formal utility review applies.
The program lets NS Power customers generate their own renewable electricity to offset part or all of their use while still drawing from the grid[1]. NS Power filed the program's terms with the Utility and Review Board after the 2022 changes to the Electricity Act[2].
Size caps
| Customer | Cap |
|---|---|
| Self-Generating Option (any customer) | 27 kW, no application |
| General commercial | Up to 200 kW |
| Farms, fisheries, aquaculture, demand-charge customers | Up to 1 MW |
The 27 kW Self-Generating Option is available to homes and businesses alike[1]; above that, the commercial program and its agreement apply[2].
What a commercial assessment covers
Twelve months of interval data, demand-charge analysis, structural review, interconnection feasibility, and ITC planning — because the system must be sized to annual consumption and demand charges still apply. Incentives: Nova Scotia business and non-profit incentives and the 30% ITC[3].
